In Naoero

International
The number of people entering the EU to claim asylum has dropped to its lowest level in five years. An English right-wing extremist was charged after video showed him slashing a small rubber boat, with an emergency responder on board. In the past month 11% of Ukrainian refugees in Poland have left the country as bureaucratic processes left them in limbo and local antipathy towards them has grown. Despite the ongoing conflict in Sudan, a new program was launched to bring refugees back into the country to help rebuild homes. The Guardian published a story on the disillusionment among white South Africans whose refugee claims to the USA were rejected.
In policy
Over 30,000 people have thus far been granted Resolution of Status visas, far exceeding the original 19,000 estimate. The UNSW Kaldor Centre published a toolkit on the application of international and human rights law when people are displaced due to climate change and natural disasters.
In research
The Settlement Council of Australia published research into the role that early support plays in the success of people arriving in the country on humanitarian grounds. Research conducted by the UNSW Social Policy Centre found that almost 90% of children who come to Australia as refugees will experience poverty in their first year.
